This week’s show features an interview with the Right Hon Paul Burstow.
We are delighted to welcome Paul as our special Xmas guest on the Disruptive Social Care Podcast. Paul is the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park. He has enjoyed an active Parliamentary Career and his posts have included Spokesman for Older People 1997-2003 and Shadow Secretary of State for Health, 2003-2005. Paul was appointed as Minister of State for Health (Care Services) in May 2010 and lost this position in the Cabinet reshuffle of September 2012. Paul was appointed as Chair of the Committee on the Draft Care and Support Bill in November 2012 which will be reporting to Parliament in March 2013
The Joint Committee on the draft Care and Support Bill which he chairs is conducting pre-legislative scrutiny into the draft Bill and the policies it seeks to implement. This is a significant bill to overhaul social care which places adult safeguarding on a statutory footing, introduces a nationwide threshold for council-funded adult care support and new rights to support for carers, as well as codifying the multiple existing laws on social care.
